Ren Mihatsch is a transmedia artist and scenographer. Their multifaceted artistic practice is characterized by their work in the fields of visual arts, performing arts and filmmaking. Trans and inter are central strategies for working at the intersections of research, analysis, concept and poetry, analogue and digital processes, diverse facets of corporealities, as well as exterior, interior, exhibition and stage spaces. They assemble various materials, objects, sound and light to create multisensory experiences ranging from large-scale installations and video pieces to digital prints and sculptures. In live performances, they bring queer bodies in intimate relationships with their surroundings and use audiovisual technology that itself becomes part of the performative installations. In this way, bodies in space turn into somatic media, and the experience of the audience becomes an essential aspect of the overall conception. For more complex productions, they regularly enter into close collaboration with dancers, musicians, costume designers and filmmakers.

Their own and collaborative works have been shown in places such as Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf in collaboration with the Julia Stoschek Foundation, the Kunstverein Fuhrwerkswaage, tanzhaus nrw, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, Munich International Film Festival and the Max Ophüls Film Festival. Among others, they have received grants from Kunststiftung NRW, BMKÖS, Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin, Initiative Freie Musik Köln, Stiftung Kunstfonds, Fonds Darstellende Künste, Stadt Graz Kulturamt, Stadt Köln Kulturamt, Cheers For Fears and Kultur Steiermark.

They are based in Cologne and Austria. They completed postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (graduation 2021), studied Transmedia Art (Brigitte Kowanz) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (graduation 2013) and architecture at the Graz University of Technology (graduation 2011). They spent one academic semester in Caracas, Venezuela (2007-08) and one year in Valencia, Spain (2005-06).
